RDP set to move from Burough Hall

The Rutherford Downtown Partnership (RDP) has been given two months to move out of their downtown Rutherford office space located in Burough Hall. The group has been stationed there, rent free, for over ten years.
The Rutherford council gave the two-month notice to RDP on Monday. The group, currently located in the basement at Burough Hall, has already been offered alternative space, rent free, by council members at the newly renovated train station. However, feelings about that particular location are mixed.
According to North Jersey news, “Councilman Jack Boyle backed the move and said being in the train station would give the RDP a chance to entice commuters to shop in the district and would put RDP Manager Robin Reenstra-Bryant closer to the businesses the organization is meant to work for. Councilwoman Kim Birdsall largely concurred, and added that some presence in the train station would help deter vandalism.”
Alternatively, Mayor John Hipp opposed the decision, saying there is no proof that not relocating the offices will make it more difficult to gain access to the RDP. Similarly, Reenstra-Bryant feels the relocation will turn the RDP into a ‘welcome center’ to the public, deterring employees from working.
